1 West Street, Taumarunui

An old villa at 1 West Street, Taumarunui, got a major facelift. Stripping back 10 coats of paint (including lead paint), we revived its charm with local craftsmanship and quality materials.

Services Used:

What Brands We Used:

Resene QuickDry, Sonyx, Dulux Surface Prep, Rust Kill

NZ Sanders for dustless lead removal

First Windows and Doors for double glazing

Insulmax blow-in insulation

Imported tin panels finished in 2 Pak De Beer car paint

Plumber for new coloursteel roof

Local builders for new weatherboards

The Job

The outside of the villa had blistering old paint (10 coats in total), baked on hard over 110 years - it needed to come off! New windows and doors were going in and the roof was replaced. Once the windows were out, it was easy to strip the weatherboards back to bare, revealing the native rimu weatherboards’ potential (people were very sceptical that I would find matching weatherboards). We primed, filled holes, masked joinery, and sprayed coats of Dulux Surface Prep to get the weatherboards looking like brand new.

The Solution

Old blistered paint was history. New joinery, spouting, and facia boards found their place. New trim for windows and doors. No matching weatherboards? Challenge accepted.

The Results

People can’t help but stare – it’s like a new build! Smoothest boards in town. Wait, Bob, those gables! Mind if I peek inside? A crazy amount of work, but worth it. Prepped for the next paint job, it’s a breeze.
