An old villa at 1 West Street, Taumarunui, got a major facelift. Stripping back 10 coats of paint (including lead paint), we revived its charm with local craftsmanship and quality materials.
The outside of the villa had blistering old paint (10 coats in total), baked on hard over 110 years - it needed to come off! New windows and doors were going in and the roof was replaced. Once the windows were out, it was easy to strip the weatherboards back to bare, revealing the native rimu weatherboards’ potential (people were very sceptical that I would find matching weatherboards). We primed, filled holes, masked joinery, and sprayed coats of Dulux Surface Prep to get the weatherboards looking like brand new.
